What's not to love about Australia Day? The sun is shining (touch wood), the BBQ is sizzling, and the majority of the country's workforce enjoy a well-earned public holiday.

There are a number of fantastic events happening around the State, so we've put together a guide to the Australia Day hotspots in your local area.

Devonport

Devonport's Mersey Bluff precinct will play host to the festivities on the 26th from 4:00pm-8.00pm. Widely recognised as one of Tassie's most family-friendly beaches, Mersey Bluff provides a great location for the Australia Day activities, with plenty of sun, sand and grass areas for the kids and adults alike to enjoy.

Burnie

The Burnie Arts and Function Centre will be hosting an event on Australia Day to recognise the awards for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year, along with a citizenship ceremony and musical entertainment. This is a free event open to the community and will be held from 10.30am-12.30pm.

Launceston

The annual 'Music in the park' event will again be held in Launceston's iconic City Park, with this year's performers including the City of Launceston RSL band. Entry is free, so pack a picnic, take the family and enjoy some fine entertainment in one of Tasmania's most picturesque locations.

Kingston

The popular Kingston Beach will be holding 'A Day on the Beach', celebrating all elements of Australian culture, from the humble barbeque to our love of all things sport-related. Official events will run from 8.00am to 2.00pm. 'A Day at the Beach' is a great way for groups to become involved with their community and gain valuable exposure and local support for their organisations.

Sandy Bay

The Sandy Bay Regatta is one the longest running regattas in the world, and will again be held on the 26th this year. The event centres around various activities on the water, beach and land, with members of the public able to join in on many of the activities and games.

This year's event opens at 9.00am and is expected to attract around 10,000 people.
